CUSTOM FULL WRAP FOR SMART CAR FORTWO

It is not very often to see a car that truly takes uniqueness to the next level. Especially when you come across hundreds of cars on an everyday basis. It becomes a challenge to make your car unique and attractive for both you and the people looking at it. We recently did a full wrap for a Smart Car Fortwo that belongs to one of our installers.

At Vinyl Wrap Toronto, we like to push our boundaries and this is the perfect example. And instead of experimenting with anything on our clients’ vehicles, we first give it a go on vehicles that belong to us or the people working with us. We make sure that our clients get the best service possible and before we start offering it, we practice on our own cars.

Although our installers have more than a decade of experience, there are always new things to learn and try. We attempted to do something that we’d never done before. There are always things we haven’t tried and in the case of our installer, he had never tried printing anything on coloured material. He wanted to take a chance and worked out better than expected.

Our installer who owns the Smart Car Fortwo had a few reasons to get a full wrap for it, we’ve listed those reasons below:

  • Wanted a car that’s one of a kind: Like everyone who decides to get a full wrap for their vehicle to personalize it, our installer wanted the same. She felt that her Smart Car needed to pop; make a statement wherever it goes.
  • Experiment: Another reason why our installer wanted the full wrap was that she wanted an opportunity to experiment with a lot of things on her Smart Car before our installers try to do any of that on our actual clients’ vehicles. This Smart Car became a canvas for our artists (Installers & Graphic Designers).

With those two reasons in mind, it was time to come up with something that’ll make jaws drop. Being creative and innovative, it didn’t take long for our team to come up with an edgy and stylish design. The installer who owns the Smart Car wanted a pattern with roses on it and another installer wanted a skull with a beard and both of them wanted an edgy version of the logo of Vinyl Wrap Toronto on it. One of the reasons for this wrap was to promote our business.

That was enough to get the wheels rolling. Our team of skilled designers rendered the design on a digital file. From the point of deciding on a design, we started to manifest it into reality.

The next step was to print the design onto a Vinyl Sheet. Now the cool thing we did here was that we actually printed our design on a 3M psychedelic-coloured Vinyl. Usually, the coloured Vinyl is wrapped as is on the vehicle, but we had to try it and wanted to create something breathtakingly beautiful. So we decided to print on Vinyl which is generally considered non-printable and the results were worth the try. We came up with something completely out of the box.

Now the plain psychedelic vinyl which shifts colours like a rainbow from different viewing angles under sunlight had a black pattern printed on top of it.

At first, it may have seemed like an odd idea to us to put skulls having beards with a bunch of roses, but when we saw it printed on the Vinyl, it made all the sense in the world. This is a great example of how in the wrap industry, expectations can differ greatly from reality.

There are a few extra steps we took to make this work are:

  • We took standard coloured Vinyl and printed our design on it.
  • To protect the material from UV rays, we laminated it.
  • Printed on Chrome by Avery Dennison: Generally, it is not printed on due to the fact that it’s extremely fragile, but we had to give it a shot and it turned out perfect. Adding more grace to the Smart Car’s full wrap.

This whole full wrap for the Smart Car was nothing more than a test case, for us to see how far we can push the boundaries and that’s exactly what we did. Before, during and after doing it, there were a few questions that we had for ourselves:

  • Can we do it?
  • Will it last?
  • Does it look like it was worth it?

All those questions we had about the Smart Car’s full wrap, were answered when we decided to take the car to a car show. It was the perfect place to test what we had just accomplished. If there’s a place filled with wrap and car enthusiasts, it’s a car show.

When our installer drove the Smart Car into the Car show, Jaws dropped, heads turned and the crowd started passing fascinated looks. It was a moment of the result when we’d get to know whether the efforts we put into doing a full wrap for the Smart Car paid off or not. After a few moments, we found out the jaws that dropped and all the whispering was about how great the car looks. People were stunned by the Smart Car’s beauty.

The two-seater customized Smart Car stole the thunder from standard-looking luxury and sports cars at the car show. People came up to us and mentioned it was something that they had never seen before and expressed an interest in where they could get it done.

So, there you have it. The Story of a dull Smart Car that we turned into a stunning beauty. We’ve attached some pictures of the fully wrapped smart car on this page for you to admire.

Now that we have tested our abilities, we can confidently say we’re more than capable of doing a similar job for any other vehicle.
